1300 ft (400 m) RC Plane Flight With Movable Onboard Camera

by admin on September 23, 2009

2 1300 ft (400 m) RC Plane Flight With Movable Onboard CameraFirst flight with my Multiplex Acromaster and FlyCamOne2 with movable camera head.
I think it’s possible to climb to an altitude of 2000 ft (600 m) because I could still see the flight position of the plane. Well, I could not see the position directly, I only noticed changing of the position.

Setup:
Standard Multiplex Acromaster
2x Hitec HS-82MG
2x Hitec HS-55
1x Hitec HS-55 for camera head movement
Kokam 11,1V 2100mAh, 30C H5
Himax C3516-1130
Multicont BL-54
ACP 11×5,5
Graupner/JR R-16 Scan 40 MHz
Graupner/JR MX-16s
Weight approx. 1,2 kg with movable onboard camera
Thrust approx. 1,5 kg

    Well, look at scene …
Well, look at scene 1:42, the wind turbine in the background has an overall altitude of 143,5 m. I guessed the distance to the horizon, so my result was approx. 400 m.
The wingspan is 1,195 m, it’s giant compared to my 450 heli. And the rotor (diameter 72 cm) is almost invisible. My record was approx. 183 m with the heli, measured at this wind turbine. Look at the other Acromaster vid for more informations of the wind turbine.
And if the altitude would only be 200 m, who cares? ;-)

In Austria it is 492 ft (150 m). But the next airport is more than 20 km away…..
Well, my plane can climb to 10000 ft, but I can’t see it anymore. I am getting a fpv-system in June. Go to the channel of “Gabriel2584″, awesome!

    I use a Zlog …
I use a Zlog Altimeter. it plugs into an open port on your receiver. Super Light Weight. It records your entire flight and then you plug it into your computer and download the flight data. I put velcro on the back of it to keep it from bouncing around inside in the plane. Works Great. You can Google zlog or you can goto rcdude com and see it there. The binoculars I used are just sport, 12×25, not real powerful, I need stronger to get higher!

    Thanks!
Did you use a GPS-receiver? I only have the wind turbines in the backround as reference.
What is the magnification factor of your binoculars, I need to buy one.
And yes, you are really addicted to RC :-)

    Very Cool! The …
Very Cool! The Binoculars idea is the only way to go if you are going to go higher than 1500ft. I hit 1824 feet with my Modified Super Cub (onboard altimeter). After 1800 Feet even my Spotter with Binoculars lost it. Very Cool again!

Thanks, I’m going to use binoculars next time- maybe I can go up to 3300 ft (1000 m), but I think it will not work.
