How many times have you thought of something and at the very same moment your wife cries out with the very same thought, you just had? If your normal, over the coarse of twenty or thirty years; this very same scenario has happened dozens of times to you, your spouse and many others too! Your thoughts traveled in ether by the laws of vibration.
Wallace Wattles (1860–1911) an American author, a New Thought writer speaks often about this formless substance. This material called ether, is what many scientists believe fills all space. We cannot see, smell, taste, feel or weigh it and in other ways it is supposed to be different from matter.
We can pump the air or any other gas out of an air tight vessel like an electric light bulb. A space like this where there is no matter–solid, liquid or gas–is a vacuum. But some scientists think there is ether even in a vacuum, for the following reasons. No noise can be made in a vacuum because sound must travel in matter.
If the matter is removed, the sound cannot travel. An alarm clock cannot be heard if it is put in a vacuum. But we have all seen a vacuum–type electric light bulb giving off heat and light. Heat and light, then can travel even through a vacuum. We all know that we receive light and heat from the sun, although the space between the earth and the sun seems to be empty.
After scientists studying many facts conclude that light and heat travel in waves, some what like water waves. The electric light filament gives off or radiates light waves as well as still longer ones called infrared waves. Radio broadcasting stations send out radio waves to be picked up by sensitive radios. Now many facts about light, heat, and radios can be explained if we accept the fact that they are sent by waves of different lengths.
