Maiden flight of Radio controlled 1/4 scale WWI Pfalz DIII.a. This original designed model of Fritz Hohn’s 1918 German fighter took over 3 years to build.

Torque is a ” … Torque is a “twisting” force. Think about tightening a bolt – if you pull with a force of 20 lb on a wrench 2 feet long, you’ve just applied 20*2=40 ft-lb of torque. Multiply torque by the speed (in radians per second) you turn the bolt (or propeller, or wheels, etc.) and you get power. 1 hp is 550 ft-lb/sec. That’s the power to raise a 550 lb weight 1 foot in 1 second. Hope that helps!

there is a place in … there is a place in australia called maca’s airodrome and he makes many many vintage model then sells them in arf form. they are so incredibly scale. it even has a working control colom in the cockpit

No, not really – … No, not really – 4.5hp at 9,000rpm is about 2.6 ft-lbs of torque. Easily handled by the landing gear until the plane is up to airspeed. AT 27 lbs total lift easily handles the torque in the air. P-factor is noticable, however, so a bit of right rudder is needed to track straight.

Cost for RC planes varies widely based on size, power type, features and of course whether you build from scratch, plans, kit, etc. The “cost” here was mainly time, but I love building so that’s a good thing! I’d say the material cost was about $1,500 (engine is $600, radio about $300, and the remaining materials about $600)

Designed and built … Designed and built by you? WOW. I have a Pfalz too. A 1958 Aurora 1/48th plastic. The detail you put in this thing is amazing especially nose and cowl. Very impressive, if you don’t mind, what does somethiug like this cost?

Thx – timne aloft … Thx – timne aloft depends alot on throttle control, type of flying and type of plane. 10 minutes is typical on 20 oz of fuel.
