Great Question.
I recommend a very very light sanding first with fine paper, then apply a couple coats of Minwax water based Polycrylic finish to the model, this will help with sealing the foam and help with the paint covering the models original colors. After this process you can choose a color of your choice. I recommend Testors paints. I used Testors Spray Enamel white and matched it with the little bottle brush testers white for touch up. Good Luck.
