Time Lapse RC Plane Build – Stevens Aero RV-4

by admin on February 26, 2010

2 Time Lapse RC Plane Build Stevens Aero RV 4A build video of my Steven’s AeroModel RV-4

Powered by Hacker A20-20L brushless outrunner, Turnigy Plush 40A ESC, ThunderPower 1320mAh 3S LiPo

I didn’t get to film all of the build – in particular the radio equipment – I just wanted to get it finished! There were a few mistakes along the way but the plane is a great kit – the quality of the laser cut parts is amazing.

My hat off to Bill @ Stevens AeroModel

Music: If You Tolerate This (David Holmes Remix)

Filmed on a PS2 EyeToy USB camera, that melted! Yes, it melted under the halogen spotlight used to illuminate the desk. I was wondering why it was going out of focus and then I realised, because the plastic was starting to warp and slide down. Interesting to say the least – it still works!

    They’re great …
They’re great planes :D I’ve had two now (this one caught caught in bushes and I got stung by three wasps trying to get it out of the thorns.

My current one (which if you look through my 5009 photos video, you’ll see) is still flying strong

(I built it much better the second time!)

    It’s ProFilm (also …
It’s ProFilm (also OraCover and something else). It’s a heat shrink plastic covering you “iron” on and then shrink. I like ProFilm for it’s ease of use, SolarFilm works just the same.

The heat shrink plastic replaces the old tissue and dope method – it’s strong, lightweight, durable and comes in many colours (opaque and transparent)

    :P It’s taking me …
:P It’s taking me all winter (and spring so far) to finish a Sig Somethin Extra but I’m also filming that one in the same way.

    Thanks! Long …
Thanks! Long videos aren’t popular on YouTube but I needed to use the whole time so it wasn’t all just a blur!

The camera would record when it sensed motion but the entire footage added up to 30 minutes or more (from memory). I sped up the footage in Adobe Premiere so it’s timelapse but not per frame.

Stay tuned, I’m going to film my next plane build and try get a better angle including the radio installation.

    Thanks for the comment!

BUT, looking at the plane in the garden, i thought to myself.. Hmmm.. what would the plane look like if it had graffiti and stylish design colours?

  • chipko

    The plane was £45 …
The plane was £45 from Micron Radio Control – the bits and pieces cost more that go in it but you could just build the airframe and admire it :D

  • chipko

    The Stevens …
The Stevens AeroModels are a pleasure to build. If you’ve not built a plane before, try go for one that’s laser cut – they are so easy to use. 1/4 piper would be quite big! The biggest plane I’ve built is a 63inch Sig Kadet LT-25.

Building a plane and then having it fly is such a rewarding process.

I love it, Inspires me to build a plane, im debating on if I should go build one, im looking at a 1/4 piper kit. Is it “hard” to build a kit for the first time?
